Bearing witness to ecological destruction and regeneration

Practicing mindfulness together in nature.
Join us to practice mindfulness at a safe distance together, at a special site.

For many years, the wetland at Sean Walsh Park in Tallaght was home to a rich biodiversity which included rare plants, newts, bats, frogs and endangered European eels. In September 2019, in one night, an entire section of the wetland was buried under tonnes of river silt by the local county council. Many animals were instantly killed and plant life extinguished. It became the subject of local protest and Dáil questions. Remedial action to restore it was promised by the council. But then..

Through the months of the pandemic the wetland began shape shifting again, and plants began to emerge through its dry surface. It's a powerful place for bearing witness to our current, planetary emergency of ecosystem and species loss, and to how the earth adapts to our harmful activity.

We will practice mindfulness meditation while sitting and in movement and we will also practice 'circle' sharing practice as part of the session (during which you can choose whether to speak, or not).

This is our second practice session in this evocative place. If practicing mindfulness outdoors together and 'touching the earth' in this way calls to you, please get in touch for more information and to register at hello@showingup.ie, or message us here.
