Showing Up

in community for ourselves, each other and our world

Mindfulness programmes for activists and NGOs

We offer mindfulness training to those who are already showing up to social problems, such as activist groups, charities, NGOs and social entrepreneurs.

Courageously turning towards society’s most difficult issues can bring a real danger of burning out. Mindfulness practice supports us, in David Loy’s words, to treat our activism as a marathon rather than a sprint. It helps us to stay engaged and balanced in the face of inevitable setbacks and disappointments. It invites us to experience our activism as a path of awareness practice in itself and to draw resilience and connection from our showing up. It asks us to include ourselves and our own life in our awareness and in our vision for a more compassionate world.

We offer a range of mindfulness programmes and workshops, based on the eight-week MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction programme). Mindfulness interventions are created in consultation with groups and organisations and are scheduled according to the needs and availability of participants.

Niamh has been teaching the MBSR programme since 2010 and is also a mindfulness teacher-trainer and supervisor. She did her training with the University of Bangor (North Wales), and the Institute for Mindfulness-Based Approaches (Germany).

Course rates are based on sustainability for both the organisation and the facilitator and are agreed on a case by case basis with this in mind. To set up an exploratory phone or Skype call, or to schedule an introductory mindfulness workshop for your organisation please email Niamh at hello@showingup.ie.
